Joan Ascheim webBODJoan Ascheim, NHPHA Executive Director, holds a Master’s Degree in nursing from the University of Virginia and a Bachelor’s Degree from Georgetown University and has practiced in public health for over 30 years. She served in a variety of public health leadership positions, including as the Maternal and Child Health Bureau Chief, Administrator for Family and Community Health Services, Chief for the Bureau of Policy and Performance Management, and Senior Deputy for the New Hampshire Division of Public Health Services, and she is a former President of NHPHA. Most recently prior to her position at NHPHA, she served as the Performance Improvement Manager for the Connecticut Department of Public Health where she was instrumental in assisting the department to achieve national accreditation.

Emily Resized

Emily Goulet is the Workforce Development Coordinator at NHPHA. Originally from the Concord, NH, area, she graduated from St. Lawrence University, in Canton, NY. She was a double major in Music and Communications, and she has continued to pursue her interest in music through accompanying on the piano and teaching piano lessons. She is currently pursuing an MS in Global Studies and International Relations at Northeastern University. Emily is actively involved in the tourism industry in NH, and she is often exploring the NH outdoors, as well as other new places. She is enjoying her work with the Rising Stars initiative at NHPHA, as well as the exciting launch of the new NHPHA Public Health Mentoring Program.

JessJess Barnett is the Program Assistant at NHPHA. Her career encompasses 15 years of copyediting, editing, and publishing experience in a variety of fields, including scientific, healthcare, pharmaceutical, and financial. She is also a self-taught artist and has been painting since 2004. She is a member and teaching artist at Artistic Roots, an artists' coop and gallery in Plymouth, NH. Additionally, she serves as a consultant as a copyeditor at DEPLOY/US, a nonpartisan nonprofit organization committed to pragmatic climate and energy solutions and sustainability. Jess graduated from Boston University in 2001 with a BA in Journalism.
